Brno court: suspended sentence for repeated rape of two underage relatives
Novinky.cz reports on a case involving a sixty-year-old man from the Vyškov region who faced up to twelve years in prison for the rape of his young niece and great-niece. On Tuesday, he left the Brno criminal court with a three-year suspended sentence deferred for five years.
The hearing before the court presided over by judge Miloš Žďárský had a single agenda item: approval of a guilty plea agreement that the defendant had concluded with the state prosecutor.
According to the charge, the man repeatedly raped his niece between 2014 and 2016, who was nine years old at the time of the first assault. Despite the girl pleading with him to stop, he did not respect her wishes. In 2024, he committed rape in the same manner against his nine-year-old great-niece, again against her will.
For these acts, the law prescribed a sentence ranging from five to twelve years in prison. The state prosecutor ultimately agreed to three years imprisonment with a suspended deferral, probation officer supervision, and outpatient sexological treatment.
"We respected the right of the parties, including the victims, to participate in the hearing on the agreement. The defendant confessed. It is necessary to take into account that one of the offences took place ten years ago. The offences were committed in relation to the extended family, and they did not wish for any other form of punishment," said judge Žďárský.
The judge further mentioned that since last year the defendant has voluntarily attended sexological treatment and, despite modest financial circumstances, has partially compensated the victims.
As neither the state prosecutor nor the defence appealed the verdict, the sentence is final. Novinky.cz does not publish the man's name or appearance in consideration of protecting the identity of the victims.
