Detectives in Pardubice have accused a juvenile of murder in the knife attack on a girl who was attacked outside the Secondary Industrial Chemical School (SPŠCH) in Pardubice on Thursday afternoon, according to ct24.ceskatelevize.cz. The seriously injured girl died after being taken to hospital. According to available information, both students attended the same school and both were juveniles.

"We have accused the detained man of the offence of murder and, given the age of both individuals involved, we will not provide any further information regarding this case," police stated on the X network. Officers detained the attacker shortly after the incident and preventively evacuated the school building in the surrounding area. Over the weekend, the court in Ústí nad Orlice is expected to decide on whether to detain the accused in custody, according to the ČTK news agency.

Juvenile perpetrators of murder face a maximum sentence of five years' imprisonment. In the case of particularly serious offences for which an adult could receive an exceptional sentence, however, the court may consider a stricter sentence in the range of five to ten years.

According to Pardubice regional governor Martin Netolický (3PK), the attack was motivated by personal problems in the relationship, and such an individual failure cannot be prevented in his view. A fourth-year student attacked a second-year student, according to media reports.

The school remained closed on Friday, and scheduled final examinations were also cancelled. The school management published information about replacement dates on its website. Psychological assistance and crisis support were offered to pupils, staff members and their loved ones as early as Thursday.

A memorial site has formed at the school entrance — candles, flowers and a wooden cross are accumulating.
