Civil Guard operation in Córdoba
Cristian Corvillo, businessman and Socialist activist, left his home in the Córdoba capital on Thursday at 15:19 accompanied by two officers from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard. According to diariocordoba.com, the departure came after several hours of searches at the property, in which six specialised Civil Guard officers participated.
Corvillo got into a vehicle with the officers without being handcuffed, whilst a third car driven by a UCO member travelled behind them. Three other officers remained at the scene reviewing the businessman's vehicle after the search concluded, which had begun in the early hours of the morning.
Six detainees released
The Civil Guard released the six people arrested in the operation after 18:00, according to sources close to the investigation who spoke to the Efe news agency. The sources did not specify whether charges were pending against those arrested or what specific facts were attributed to each detainee, as the investigation remains under judicial secrecy.
Among those detained were Corvillo's brother, Rubén; Andrea de la Torre, the current partner of former minister José Luis Ábalos; and three other businessmen. The operation forms part of a new secret section of the Koldo case opened by National Court judge Ismael Moreno following receipt of a report from the UCO.
Background to the investigation
This is not the first time Corvillo has appeared in the Koldo case. In 2024, his name emerged in investigations following his links with Víctor de Aldama. Corvillo and his brother Rubén had acknowledged maintaining business relations with Aldama, although they claimed the business deals never came to fruition. Corvillo also declared before the National Court that he had held meetings with Ábalos on matters related to the PSOE.
Corvillo has been affiliated with the PSOE since the early 2000s and was one of Pedro Sánchez's earliest supporters in Córdoba during the party's internal struggles. During the 2017 primary elections he served as Sánchez's driver, a relationship that has reappeared in reports about his court appearances. In Córdoba, he came close to heading the Socialist candidacy for Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo in the 2015 municipal elections.
Political reactions
The provincial leadership of the PSOE in Córdoba issued a statement emphasising that Corvillo is solely an affiliate of the party with no party or institutional position. The PP senator for Córdoba, Jesús Aguirre, focused on Corvillo's relationship with Sánchez during the 2017 primary elections, referring to the "so-called Peugeot gang". Aguirre stated at a campaign event that the arrest "demonstrates the extent of the networks of Sánchez's people, both in matters of corruption and in the deterioration of national politics".
