A man was arrested in Playa de Palma by officers of the National Police after being discovered transporting 30 kilograms of nitrous oxide, a substance popularly known as 'laughing gas'.
The arrest took place when a Citizens' Security patrol observed two cars parked in the s'Arenal area. The occupants displayed nervous behaviour upon noticing the police presence. Upon approaching, officers found various canisters of this gas inside the vehicles, which is inhaled as a designer drug.
In total, 30 kilograms of nitrous oxide, 2,600 euros in cash and other items were seized. One of those involved was arrested and placed at the disposal of the courts, whilst the others were released pending a determination by the judge of their procedural situation.
Nitrous oxide is a substance that produces euphoric and hallucinogenic effects when inhaled. Its sale and distribution are regulated and its recreational consumption is prohibited.
