In the early hours of last Saturday, National Police officers arrested a city resident in Ceuta as the suspected person responsible for illegally carrying a weapon and assaulting public officials in the exercise of their duties. The operation was initiated following a call received at the CIMACC-091 control centre, as detailed by El Pueblo de Ceuta.
The caller reported that a person with their face covered was hanging around near Avenida Ejército Español and was behaving strangely whilst following a woman who was walking alone through that area.
The uniformed officers rushed to the indicated location and found a man matching the description provided. When he noticed the arrival of law enforcement, he ran off in an attempt to flee, although the police caught up with him in a place with no escape routes.
When asked to identify himself, the suspect responded violently, throwing himself at one of the officers and striking him in the leg, which caused both of them to end up on the ground. During the struggle, the public officials noticed that the individual was holding something dark in one of his limbs.
Once they managed to subdue him using the necessary restraint, they discovered that the object was a knife of considerable size: in total it measured approximately 26 centimetres, with the blade accounting for around 15 centimetres. Additionally, the handle was shaped like a knuckleduster, which significantly increased its capacity to cause harm.
Both the detainee and the two officers who participated in the intervention required medical attention for minor injuries. Finally, the accused was taken to police headquarters for the preparation of the corresponding report and was later handed over to the relevant criminal jurisdiction.
