President of Zamora Provincial Council (PP) investigated for subsidy fraud
He was summoned together with the sports councillor over suspected fraud in an ultra-marathon competition in the province

The president of the Zamora Provincial Council, Javier Faúndez (PP), appeared at a press conference on Thursday to announce that he has been summoned as an investigated party in a case concerning alleged subsidy fraud linked to an ultra-marathon competition in the province, according to El Mundo.
"There is not the slightest indication that I have committed any irregularity or crime whatsoever," Faúndez declared. Along with him, the sports councillor, Juan del Canto, has also been summoned, despite the Zamora Provincial Council itself having entered the case as an injured party.
Faúndez explained that he decided to make the judicial summons—notified on Wednesday morning—public because of his desire to act "with transparency". Both he and Del Canto maintain that they are "wholly unrelated" to the facts being investigated.
The main defendant in the case is an official of the Ultrasanabria Sports Club, which organises long-distance mountain races in the province of Zamora. The Provincial Council appears in the proceeding as an injured party, a circumstance which, according to Faúndez, makes his status as an investigated party even harder to understand.
The matter is currently in the preliminary investigation phase.
