A man was arrested on Wednesday morning in Ourense as the suspected perpetrator of a gender violence offence, according to farodevigo.es. The arrested man allegedly attacked his former partner with a sharp weapon at her home, located on Rúa Monte Seixo, in the San Francisco neighbourhood.
The victim, a 23-year-old young woman, presented with cuts on her arms, a fractured wrist and a blow to the head. She was transferred to the University Hospital Complex of Ourense (CHUO), where doctors ruled out any vital risk.
The assault took place shortly before 8 a.m. and was witnessed by the couple's children, who also reside in the home. The minors were unharmed and were placed in the care of a family member.
The Sub-delegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, confirmed that there were no previous reports of gender violence and that the young woman was not included in the Viogén system for monitoring victims at risk.
The Family and Women's Care Unit (UFAM) of the National Police is investigating the incident as a suspected case of gender violence.
