Albanian fugitive detained on Paseo de Gracia with Soviet pistol and false documents

A 29-year-old man of Albanian origin was detained on 8 May on a Barcelona street, according to ABC. The detainee was carrying a Makarov pistol of Soviet manufacture, loaded with seven rounds and ready to fire, when Civil Guard officers apprehended him on Paseo de Gracia.

The officers had conducted prior surveillance work before proceeding with the arrest, waiting for the immediate surroundings to pose no risk to passers-by. The individual was considered a high-value judicial target.

The detainee was listed on two European Arrest and Surrender Orders (EASOs) issued by French authorities for drug trafficking offences and membership of a criminal organisation. There was also a Spanish arrest warrant related to vehicle theft or robbery.

In addition to the weapon, which had a 9x18 calibre, the detainee was carrying false Greek nationality documentation that allowed him to identify himself as two different persons from his actual identity, along with €1,470 in cash.

The detainee was transferred to Barcelona District Court and placed at the disposal of the National Court via video link.
