A joint operation by Europol, Interpol and Spanish police has enabled the confiscation of 16 tonnes of counterfeit sports equipment destined for sale during the World Cup, with an estimated value of 7 million euros.

Spanish police released images on Wednesday 17 June of a significant seizure of counterfeit football shirts. The photographs show thousands of garments from various national teams stacked in a room completely full.
This extensive operation was carried out within the framework of a joint investigation between Europol, Interpol and Spanish law enforcement. In total, at least 16 tonnes of counterfeit football equipment have been seized, which were destined to be sold during the World Cup. The figure represents more than 66,000 counterfeit shirts and sports items. According to the authorities, the commercial value of the seized products amounts to 7,000,000 euros.
The raids were carried out in several cities across Spanish territory, including Madrid, Barcelona and Málaga. So far, 95 people have been arrested in connection with this investigation.
