The National Police has made more than a hundred arrests in Palma since mid-May as part of the summer policing reinforcement in the Balearic Islands.

The National Police has made more than a hundred arrests in Palma since mid-May as part of the summer reinforcement operation in the Balearic Islands, according to Majorca Daily Bulletin.
The majority of the arrests relate to theft and burglary, committed mainly in Palma Beach and the historic centre. Officers caught the offenders red-handed whilst stealing belongings from tourists.
Between 13 and 14 June, the Operational Response Group (GOR) arrested eight people who were stealing items from the sand such as mobile phones and wallets containing money and bank cards.
'Summer Operation 2026' has deployed additional personnel in Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza to prevent crimes linked to the influx of tourists. In Palma, the operation is concentrated on Palma Beach, Son Sant Joan airport and the urban centre.
The operation includes officers from the Prevention and Response Unit (UPR), the Police Intervention Unit (UIP), the Mobile Brigade, the Canine Unit and the Brigade for Response to Illegal Immigration (BRIC). These units patrol entertainment areas, transport hubs and public spaces.
At Palma Beach, pickpockets and bag-snatchers operate with particular intensity at night, taking advantage of bathers leaving their belongings unattended. Thefts also occur in hotels, restaurants and nightlife areas, where tourists neglect their possessions.
At the airport, border controls and theft prevention measures have been reinforced. In Ibiza, the Foreign Tourist Assistance Service (SATE) operates with interpreters in various languages until 31 October.
Additionally, police officers from Germany, the Netherlands and Romania patrol alongside their Spanish counterparts under the 'European Union Police Stations' project, governed by the Prüm Treaty.
