Valencia's provincial court has sentenced footballer Rafa Mir to more than eight years in prison for sexually assaulting a young woman at his home in Bétera.

The fourth section of the Valencian regional court has imposed a sentence of 102 months in prison on striker Rafael Mir Vicente after finding him guilty of sexual assault with penetration and causing injury to a twenty-one-year-old woman.
The events took place on the last day of August 2024 at the sportsman's single-family home, located in the Torre en Conill residential area within the municipality of Bétera. At that time, Mir was playing for the club che. During the oral hearing, held in late May, the defence maintained that the relationship had been consensual.
The ruling, subject to appeal to higher courts, also establishes financial compensation of sixty-four thousand euros in favour of the victim. The now-condemned man, owned by the Seville club but temporarily loaned to the Elche team, has a period in which to appeal.
The court has also handed down a sentence against Pablo Jara, another footballer present at the events. The latter must serve thirty months in prison for a second sexual assault, a crime against psychological dignity and a serious injury offence. Compensation in his case amounts to six thousand two hundred and eighty euros.
