Health authority reports cardiologist at Vinalopó Hospital to prosecutors for prescribing anabolic steroids
The Valencian Community's health authority has filed a complaint with prosecutors against a cardiologist at Vinalopó Hospital in Elche for allegedly prescribing anabolic steroids to patients who did not need them.

According to ABC, the health authority of the Valencian Community (Conselleria de Sanidad) has reported a cardiologist at Vinalopó Hospital in Elche to prosecutors for allegedly prescribing anabolic steroids to a group of patients whose state of health did not justify this type of medication. The regional administration has also opened a disciplinary proceeding against the physician.
Vinalopó Hospital, a publicly-funded centre with private management operated by Ribera Salud, confirmed that it had become aware of the facts through a notification from the health authority itself. The centre indicated that "an internal investigation has been opened to clarify the facts" and that, whilst it is ongoing, the professional has been removed "as a precautionary measure" from "his clinical duties".
The Pharmaceutical Inspection service in Alicante had gathered evidence of possible irregular conduct by the cardiologist. The analysis carried out also revealed that the majority of the patients in the affected group belonged to health departments different from that of the investigated physician, which had drawn the attention of the inspectors.
