The Civil Guard of Gran Canaria is investigating a man from Telde for the violent death of at least four dogs, beaten with a blunt object and buried on land adjacent to his residence.

A man residing in the municipality of Telde, in Gran Canaria, has been identified as the alleged perpetrator of a continuing offence of animal cruelty following the violent death of at least four dogs. According to ABC, the animals were beaten to death with a blunt object inside the suspect's home, with their bodies subsequently buried on land adjacent to the property.
The investigation is being conducted by the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Civil Guard of Gran Canaria. The proceedings were initiated several months ago following a report from the National Police of Telde, which alerted authorities to facts that, due to their seriousness, could constitute an offence of animal cruelty resulting in death.
Following that notification, officers carried out the necessary steps to clarify what had occurred and succeeded in determining that the suspect had killed the animals inside his own home. To conceal the facts, the alleged perpetrator would have buried the bodies on the adjoining land.
The case also presents a dimension of violence in the domestic sphere. Both officers from the Family and Women's Assistance Unit (UFAM) of the National Police of Telde and the Civil Guard of Gran Canaria are investigating the man for domestic abuse, in a case that was initially opened following a report of gender-based violence. The man maintained a violent attitude towards the animals in the home, a situation that had generated fear in his family circle.
The Civil Guard has drawn up the corresponding proceedings for the alleged continuing offence of animal cruelty, filed before Investigating Court number 3 of the Court of First Instance of Telde, in the province of Las Palmas. Animal cruelty is classified under the Criminal Code and may carry sentences of imprisonment and disqualification from keeping animals.
