Fatal shooting in Yvelines
According to France 24 - France, a man fired bursts on Friday 23 October from a vehicle on National Road 10 between Trappes and La Verrière, in Yvelines, killing one person and wounding at least four others. A 12-year-old child is among the victims, struck eight times but whose condition is stabilised, according to the mayor of La Verrière, Nicolas Dainville. Two men, aged 20 and 49, were also hit and transported to hospital; their vital prognoses are not at risk.
The incident occurred shortly after 10:30. The suspect was driving a vehicle and opened fire on pedestrians before being arrested in the car park of a Kiloutou store in a commercial zone. He was placed in police custody.
The mayor of Trappes, Ali Rabeh, declared on BFMTV that the shooter "was clearly firing at random and wanted to cause a massacre". The motivation for the shots remains uncertain for now. Minister Laurent Nunez announced that the national counter-terrorism prosecution had been seized of the case, evoking elements that could point the investigation towards a terrorist dimension.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu assured that "all means of the security forces and judicial authority are fully mobilised". The investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances and motives for these shots.
