New details have emerged in the double death case in Aigion, with authorities investigating the possibility that a 54-year-old mother killed her 26-year-old son and subsequently took her own life.

Approximately a month has passed since the bodies of a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son were discovered in a residence in Longo, Aigion. Nevertheless, the causes of their deaths remain unclear, with the investigation taking an unexpected direction.
The woman's 65-year-old partner, an Italian national, is being held provisionally as the primary suspect for the double homicide. He claims he was asleep until late in the morning and discovered the bodies when he woke up.
Recent findings from the preliminary investigation, however, bring an alternative scenario to the fore. The prosecuting authorities are now seriously considering the possibility that the woman killed her child and then ended her own life.
Several pieces of evidence support this version. The lifeless body of the mother was found to have injuries that could have resulted from criminal activity, while security system recordings showed that no other person entered the house that night. Genetic material was detected on the knife used exclusively from the two victims, with no traces from the Italian man.
Additionally, DNA residue from the son was found under the fingernails of the 54-year-old, whilst no genetic material from the arrested man was found on the victims. Laboratory analyses by the Hellenic Police detected no bloody traces on either the Italian man's clothing or his personal items.
The young victim's maternal grandmother expressed her belief that her daughter would never have harmed her child. "She loved him so much that she would never have hurt him," she told journalists.
Researchers are still awaiting results from genetic analyses on blood samples collected from various points in the residence, as well as from an examination of a robotic vacuum cleaner that had been used in the space. The high-profile case may take an unexpected turn in the coming days.
