Fraudsters pose as DEDDIE employees to extort money
Scammers are calling citizens impersonating employees of the Greek Electricity Distribution Network Manager or energy companies, with the aim of extorting sums of money and valuables, as announced by the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water.
The perpetrators falsely inform victims of alleged electricity leaks or radiation, and then demand that they hand over money and jewellery from their homes. The primary objective is to create an atmosphere of fear and panic, so that call recipients comply with their instructions or reveal sensitive personal information.
The RAWEG emphatically clarifies that DEDDIE staff or employees of energy sector companies will never request money and jewellery from residents.
The authority provides protective guidelines: - Do not provide your personal details or information over the telephone to strangers - Do not trust conversations with strangers who ask for money or access to your home - Do not allow people you do not know to enter your home - Report to the Hellenic Police any suspicious incident you become aware of
