Tempi Trial: Decision on Charge Upgrading Pending
The Three-Member Felony Court of Larissa rejected the request for supplementary investigation in the trial concerning the railway accident at Tempi, according to tovima.gr. At the same time, it reserved its decision on the request from the prosecution supporting side for upgrading the charges, which will be examined following the commencement of the evidentiary procedure.
The court president stated that a corresponding stance was maintained regarding the submission of documents and the summoning of witnesses. Furthermore, the court reserved its decision on a request for annulment of the indictment, awaiting possible objections from the defence.
Today's session opened with submissions from lawyers supporting the prosecution on the prosecutor's proposal. Zoe Konstantopoulou, counsel for the relatives of victims, made reference, among other things, to the representation of the Greek State and to a document from the State Legal Council.
Among the admissible documents in the trial was a laboratory expert report concerning the route of the freight train at the time of the accident. The submitted CDs include expert material from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DEE), which was carried out following an order from the investigating judge and will be correlated with the case file.
At the next hearing, the first substantive arguments of the defence lawyers are expected to be presented.
