Larissa Appeals Court: Decision Reserved on Upgrading Charges in Tempi Trial

The Three-Member Court of Misdemeanours in Larissa reserved its decision on the request to upgrade charges in the trial concerning the rail accident at Tempi, according to reports by Google News GR — Crime (el). At the same time, the court rejected the request for supplementary investigation.

The court president clarified that the reservation concerns the specific request submitted by the prosecution support side and will be ruled upon following the commencement of the evidence procedure. A corresponding stance was taken regarding the submission of documents and the summoning of witnesses. The court also reserved its decision on a request for annulment of the indictment, awaiting objections from the defence side.

Today's hearing opened with submissions from the prosecution support representatives regarding the prosecutorial proposal. The advocate for victims' relatives, Zoe Konstantopoulou, referred, among other matters, to the representation of the Greek State and the document from the State Legal Council.

Among the documents admitted as evidence in the trial was a laboratory expertise report concerning the route of the commercial train during the time of the accident. The CDs submitted included expertise material from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, which was conducted following an order by the investigating judge and will be correlated with the case file.

At the next hearing, the initial independent arguments of the defendants' advocates are expected to be presented.
