Forensic investigators return to house — cleaning traces at focus
One week after the double murder in Aigion, a specialist unit from the Directorate of Forensic Investigations returned to the property to conduct a new thorough examination, according to Naftemporiki. Using specialised equipment, investigators are searching for traces that may have been cleaned or covered up, as well as evidence that will shed light on the exact circumstances in which the crime was committed.
At the centre of the investigation are reports of the use of cleaning products within the premises, and also the absence of objects considered significant to the case. The first police officers to enter the residence noted a strong smell of cleaning products, whilst no broom or mop was found — a discovery that immediately raised questions among investigators. The scene, according to information, did not match what is usually encountered at the scene of such a violent incident.
Authorities are investigating whether there was a coordinated effort to destroy evidence and who could have benefited from such tampering. At the same time, the possibility is being examined that the clothes worn by the alleged perpetrator during the crime were removed from the scene before the arrival of police forces.
Investigations are also extending to the wider area around the house. Police are focusing, among other things, on locating the destroyed mobile phone of the 54-year-old victim, as well as possible biological findings or other objects that could strengthen the case file.
The neighbour who found the bodies
Of critical importance is expected to be the testimony of the friend and neighbour of the 65-year-old Italian, who is considered the first person to enter the room where the two bodies were found. According to investigation details, the neighbour received a telephone call from the 65-year-old in the early morning hours of last Tuesday, asking him to come to the house immediately.
When he arrived, he found himself facing the sight of two bodies. The 65-year-old is said to have been in a state of extreme confusion and to have expressed ignorance about what had happened. The neighbour was the one who called the authorities.
The accused insists on his innocence
The 65-year-old remains in custody for the double homicide and denies any involvement. Through his lawyers he maintains his innocence and requests investigation of all available evidence, including examination of medical files relating to the two victims, believing that new data could emerge from these.
