A 35-year-old man was shot dead by an unknown assailant on Saturday evening in Exarcheia whilst walking his dog. The gunman fired four bullets at him on steps leading to Strefi Hill, according to information reported by HuffPost Greece.
Authorities are still searching for the armed man, who according to witness accounts from residents fled towards the hill. The area was cordoned off by police, but the assailant has not been located so far.
The motives behind the cold-blooded murder remain unclear. However, Greek Police investigations are focusing mainly on the possibility of a settlement of scores between drug trafficking networks. All scenarios remain open.
One notable aspect of the case is the behaviour of the victim's dog. The pet did not react during the attack and when police officers arrived with paramedics from the ambulance service, the animal was found frightened beside its owner, without abandoning him.
