A 50-year-old man, who served in a frontline unit of the Greek security authorities, killed his 45-year-old wife in Drama on Monday 15 June and subsequently ended his own life.
According to Newsbomb, the forensic report showed that the victim sustained seven stab wounds from a sharp object with a blade longer than ten centimetres. One of these caused perforation to the heart, whilst the remaining six struck the lungs and adjacent tissue. The findings revealed that there had been no altercation prior to the murder. The man was found with a gunshot wound to the left side of his skull.
The couple had separated. The woman had moved and was living at her sister's house, and had submitted a request for transfer to Thessaloniki. The uncle of the 45-year-old stated that the perpetrator had threatened her with a weapon two weeks earlier, whilst she was sleeping, after she had requested a divorce.
The unfortunate woman had notified her husband's superior about his condition, but did not proceed with a formal complaint. She had never approached the prosecuting authorities.
As stated by the spokesperson of the Hellenic Police, the couple in question had not been a matter of concern for the police in the past. The 50-year-old was seeing a psychologist in a private setting, without his service being aware of the fact. The specialist had identified episodes of panic and psychological pressure, and had referred the patient to a psychiatrist. The specialist doctor had prescribed sedative medication, which was found in the house after the incident. According to the psychologist, the perpetrator had not exhibited suicidal tendencies nor had shown any intention to harm anyone else.
The ambulance service was notified following a telephone call from the minor child of the family, who realised it was their mother. Despite the efforts of the paramedics, the woman succumbed a short time later.
