On Saturday night, an unknown gunman fatally shot a 35-year-old man at the intersection of Kallidromio and Benaki streets in the Exarchia area. Greek police investigations continued during the early morning hours of Sunday.

Based on statements collected by the authorities, the attacker opened fire on the victim and then headed towards Strefi Hill. Within a short time, the area was placed under police cordon.

The 35-year-old was shot in the head and chest, with the number of bullets estimated between five and six. At the time of the attack, he had his small dog with him. When police officers and EKAB paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the animal hiding under the hand of the dead man, silent and motionless. Despite the efforts of those present, the pet refused to move away from its owner.

The unfortunate man was known in the neighbourhood and often went for walks with his dog. Residents of the area asked to know about the animal's condition, as it was initially reported that it had been injured. When it was established that it was unharmed, many expressed a desire to care for it. Police officers advised them to contact Exarchia Police Station so that proper procedure could be followed.

The motives for the criminal act remain unclear. One of the theories under investigation by police is the settlement of personal differences.
