The Prosecutor's Office in Veria has brought criminal charges against a 47-year-old man, accusing him of intentional homicide, causing bodily injury to a 62-year-old, and illegal possession and use of a weapon. The case concerns a fatal incident that occurred in Kouloura, Imathia.
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon in an outdoor area of the region. According to evidence gathered by police, the trigger was a heated argument that erupted between the 47-year-old and a 62-year-old elderly man. Property disputes between the two men are being investigated as a possible cause of the confrontation.
During the altercation, a 32-year-old intervened in an attempt to separate the two quarrelling men. In the scuffle that followed, the young man was attacked with a blade in the chest area, resulting in fatal injuries and his collapse on the spot. The 62-year-old was also wounded and required transfer to Veria General Hospital for medical care, from which he was subsequently discharged.
Police officers from the area arrived at the scene and arrested the 47-year-old. During the investigation, authorities located and seized two knives, one from the scene of the scuffle and one from a nearby area.
The alleged perpetrator remains in custody, and the investigating magistrate in Veria has set Friday as the deadline for him to enter his plea. He will remain under restrictions pending completion of the proceedings.
