The 45-year-old police officer who lost her life at the hands of her separated husband in Drama sustained seven knife wounds, according to findings from the forensic pathology examination reported by Newsbeast. The wounds were found mainly on the woman's back and sides.
One of the seven wounds caused serious trauma to the heart and was the fatal blow. Other wounds resulted in injuries to the lungs and adjacent tissue. The pathologists did not identify any wounds suggesting a blow from a different object.
Based on evidence gathered so far, there are no indications of intense struggle before the attack. The knife used had a blade longer than 10 centimetres.
The forensic pathology examination of the 50-year-old husband, also a police officer, revealed a wound to the left temple attributed to a bullet from a service weapon. Authorities are continuing to examine all evidence in order to establish the precise circumstances that led to the crime.
During a search of the couple's residence, police found pharmaceutical preparations — among them sedatives, antidepressants, and medication for panic attacks. The findings have already been included in the case file.
Toxicology tests are still pending, and authorities estimate that their results will contribute to a complete reconstruction of the circumstances of the tragedy.
Relatives of the 45-year-old describe an environment of tension within the couple in recent times. The woman's uncle stated that a serious incident between the two had occurred a few weeks before the crime, whilst also expressing the view that an official complaint should have been filed with the competent authorities earlier.
