Seven knife wounds and history of threats behind femicide in Drama
The 45-year-old female police officer who was murdered by her 50-year-old husband, also a police officer, in Drama sustained seven knife wounds, according to findings from the forensic examination reported by ERT. The police investigation into the exact circumstances of the crime continues.
The victim's relatives describe a couple that had experienced serious relationship problems in recent months. The victim's uncle testified that two weeks before the murder, the 50-year-old attacked his niece while she was sleeping, holding a loaded gun and threatening her. The motive for the crime appears to be the perpetrator's refusal to accept the separation.
The injured and unconscious body of the woman was discovered by the couple's minor son, who alerted the authorities. The perpetrator committed suicide immediately afterwards using his service weapon.
Psychologist sessions and questions about medication
The authorities are now focusing on the couple's visits to a psychologist, who was working informally with the Greek Police without an official referral through the service. Both officers were passing the regular psychological tests of ELAS regularly.
ELAS spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidiou confirmed that the 50-year-old had been attending sessions for at least the past three months. "We are trying to ascertain whether he had been referred to a psychiatrist and whether any medication had been prescribed. In no case were we informed so that we could take measures such as removal of weapons," Dimoglidiou stated.
Victim's post sparks controversy
Days before her death, the 45-year-old had published a text on social media that now provokes wider discussion: "The Greek family is under attack from the LGBTQ+ community and Pride, from wicked feminists, [...] but when a man slaughters his wife a breath away from his children [...] it is blamed on bad timing, the perpetrator's immense passion, or even the victim, who knows what she did to provoke her own slaughter".
