Femicide in Drama: police officer killed his wife and then took his own life

Ta Nea reports that the community of Drama is in shock following a femicide that occurred recently: a 50-year-old police officer murdered his estranged wife, 45, also a police officer, inside their shared home, whilst their 16-year-old son was present.
The woman's funeral was held today, Monday 17 June 2026, in Nevrokopi at 11:00 in the morning. The perpetrator's funeral took place at the same time in Koudounia, Drama.
According to initial findings from the investigation, the man attacked his wife with a knife, and she sustained seven stab wounds. Police officers, colleagues of both victims, arrived at the scene and found the woman unconscious. Shortly afterwards, the perpetrator was found dead inside his car in a mountainous area of Drama, having used his service weapon.
The couple had been estranged in recent times, following approximately twenty years of living together. The man reportedly did not accept the separation, a fact that led to the tragic outcome.
The tragic figures in this case are the family's two children: the 16-year-old son, who witnessed the horrific scene inside the home, and the 20-year-old daughter, a law student in Komotini. According to information from Mega, the two children are now in their mother's family environment.
Colleagues of the two police officers stated that "neither of them had given any cause for concern, and even in terms of their work performance, they had never created any problems".
Police Press Spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglídou, speaking on the Mega show "Koinonia Ora MEGA", emphasised that a friend of the woman had referred to psychological abuse: "Psychological abuse leaves no marks and often neither the victim realises it". She added that a relative of the victim called on all women to speak out, "in order to prevent evil".
Dimoglídou also noted that the two police officers did not work in the same police station and nothing had ever been reported to any superior. "When we are talking about a perpetrator who is a police officer, a different procedure begins within the service itself", she said, emphasising that the 45-year-old worked in a border guard unit.
According to the spokesperson, the perpetrator had privately consulted a psychologist who also works with the Police. "When the psychologist determines that there is a risk to his own life or to the life of someone else, he immediately informs the Police. We have not been informed that a risk was identified", Dimoglídou concluded, adding that at some point it appears the man was also referred to a psychiatrist.
