Femicide in Drama: Police Officer Killed His Wife With Seven Stab Wounds
A 50-year-old police officer murdered his 45-year-old estranged wife in Drama after she refused reconciliation. Their 16-year-old son discovered her covered in blood.
Seven stab wounds and history of threats before the murder in Drama
According to ERT, new details have emerged regarding the femicide in Drama that cost the life of a 45-year-old police officer — perpetrated by her 50-year-old estranged husband, also a police officer, who was later found dead in his car after shooting himself.
Forensic findings
The forensic report documents seven stab wounds to the 45-year-old's body. Two proved fatal: one struck the heart and the other the lungs. The remaining five were found in adjacent tissues — back, chest and side. The murder weapon was a knife with a blade exceeding 10 centimetres.
The 16-year-old found his mother
The crime was discovered when the family's 16-year-old son found his mother covered in blood and unconscious in the basement of the house, lying on a bed. The knife lay beside her. The young man immediately alerted the authorities. Police officers and an ambulance from EKAB transported the injured woman to Drama hospital, where she died a short time later.
The 50-year-old was found dead in his car in a wooded area of Korylovo; he had shot himself in the left temple with his service weapon.
Six months of separation and pressure for reconciliation
The couple had been separated for at least six months. Testimonies indicate that the 50-year-old was putting pressure on his wife for reconciliation, unable to accept her decision to end a marriage of approximately twenty years.
Relatives of the victim report that approximately two weeks before the murder, the 50-year-old allegedly threatened the 45-year-old while she slept, holding a loaded gun. Following the incident, the woman allegedly temporarily left the house and stayed with her sister, without filing a complaint with the authorities at that time.
A relative of the victim described the act as "cold-blooded murder", saying: "He was a coward who stabbed her while she slept." The same person called upon women experiencing abusive behaviour to come forward with complaints.
Psychological tests and questions about oversights
Police Authority spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou confirmed that the case is linked to tensions arising from the separation. She also noted that the 50-year-old had sought specialist mental health services and his monitoring by a psychologist and possibly a psychiatrist is being investigated.
According to sources, the perpetrator had undergone psychological tests approximately two weeks before the crime and had been deemed suitable for duty. There was no recorded history of domestic violence. The authorities are now examining the tests and his visits to a private psychologist to determine whether there were warning signs that were not adequately assessed.

A post made by the 45-year-old a few days before her murder has caused particular shock, with references to femicide and domestic violence. In it she commented on the way responsibility is often attributed to victims or perpetrators are justified — a statement that today takes on dramatic relevance.
The children and the local community
The family's two children, aged 16 and 20, are receiving support from specialist psychologists. The local community of Drama remains in shock; residents report that silence prevails in the neighbourhood and that nothing foreshadowed the tragic development.
Drama Security continues the preliminary investigation, focusing on the chronological sequence of events, the perpetrator's psychological state and any possible oversights that may have played a role.
