According to tvopen.gr, the female police officer received at least seven stab wounds — the fatal one to the heart — from her estranged husband, also a police officer, who minutes later ended his own life with his service revolver.
The woman's body was discovered by the couple's minor son, who, despite being in a state of shock, immediately called the police.
No indicators of abuse
Police acknowledge that there were no signs of abusive behaviour in the particular couple. Based on the evidence collected, the crime is attributed to something "momentary".
The couple were separated, but, according to reporting by SKAI, they jointly participated in sessions with a psychologist so that the husband could manage the changes in his life. The female police officer had expressed confidence in her estranged husband and trusted him with the children without a second thought.
Request for redeployment reveals trust in the father
The framework of trust is evidenced by a redeployment request that the police officer had submitted to her superior, with the aim of receiving an out-of-station allowance of 4,000 euros. In her request she stated that, during her absence, the care of the children would be undertaken by their father.
Forensic findings
The forensic investigation indicated that many of the injuries were found in the lungs. The final and fatal blow was to the heart. The woman died quickly.
Despite police characterisation of the act as "momentary", the brutality of the crime remains beyond dispute: seven stab wounds to vital points of the body.
Children left without family
The family tragedy ended in the father's suicide, leaving the couple's children without either parent. The minor son, who found his mother dead, now carries images which, as tvopen.gr notes, will accompany him for the rest of his life.
