Forensic report reveals manner of death of 45-year-old woman in Drama
New details about the femicide in Drama have been revealed by a forensic report, according to Ta Nea. The 45-year-old police officer bore seven stab wounds to her back and sides, one of which caused her heart to be pierced. The remaining injuries punctured her lungs and surrounding tissue, resulting in her immediate death.
No injuries from a metal object were found, nor were there signs of physical struggle, suggesting that the woman did not have time to react. The knife that was used was longer than 10 centimetres.
The 45-year-old was found dead by her colleagues, semi-naked on a bed in a basement area of the house, next to the knife. The couple's 16-year-old son saw his mother bloodied and dying, and called an ambulance, but the woman did not survive.
The perpetrator took his own life – medications found in the house
A forensic examination of the 50-year-old chief officer of the DIAS unit showed a gunshot wound to the left temple. He ended his life immediately after the murder. Sedatives, antidepressants and panic attack medication were found in the house. Toxicological tests have been ordered for both individuals.
The perpetrator's mother went into shock upon learning of the crime and was taken to a hospital.
Six months' separation – friend: "She wanted to divorce him 20 years ago"
The couple had been separated for the past six months. The 50-year-old had moved to his parental home, while his wife had been transferred to Thessaloniki. People from the couple's social circle said they had not expected anything like this to happen.
"Three weeks ago we spoke. She told me 'I am happy, Th. is gone,'" said a friend of the 45-year-old. "She used to tell me that he needed a psychologist. She would tell him to go, but he wouldn't. She was not happy with him. In society he was the best son, everyone said. It's just that at home he was indifferent, both to her and to the children. He had told me he wanted to divorce her 20 years ago, but he was patient for the sake of the children."
Under psychological supervision – service weapon was not withdrawn
Information indicates that the chief officer was under the supervision of a psychologist. He reportedly passed recent tests and continued to serve in the force, without his service weapon being withdrawn.
Vasilis Lampropoulos stated regarding this: "That particular police officer visited the psychologist of EL.AS. approximately three months before, privately and not on the orders of the service. He does not appear to have described to him any dramatic or problematic situation, and the psychologist did not inform anyone."
EL.AS. denies allegations of domestic violence
The spokesperson of EL.AS., Konstantia Dimoglidi, denied in statements information suggesting that there had been prior complaints of domestic violence. Speaking to ANT1, she emphasised that there had been no relevant report from the immediate circle of either the perpetrator or the victim.
"Not only were there no complaints about incidents of domestic violence, there is also no report at all from the very immediate circle of the two people, who were questioned yesterday by police officers. It therefore does not appear that there was abuse, at least based on the information available so far," Dimoglidi said.
She added that behind the uniform are people with personal and family problems, while noting however that "in no circumstances can a crime be justified".
Crossfit, YouTube videos and an iron bar
According to information from Ta Nea, the 50-year-old maintained a YouTube channel where he uploaded videos of his athletic performance in gymnastics and weightlifting. He won medals in competitions and was regularly involved in crossfit.
He reportedly first struck his 45-year-old wife with an iron bar and then inflicted stab wounds to her chest, back and face.
"He was a police officer in our city in Drama. Very calm, cheerful, pleasant. I never expected that something like this could happen," said a local resident.
The forensic service is expected to provide further answers with the results of the toxicological tests that have been ordered for both individuals.
