Forensic report reveals details of the murder in Drama
Two of the seven stab wounds sustained by the 45-year-old police officer in Drama were found to be fatal — one struck the heart and the other the lungs. According to ERT, these details emerge from the forensic report prepared following the murder. The remaining five stab wounds were found in adjacent tissue, in the back, chest and sides.
The murder weapon was a knife with a blade over 10 centimetres long. The alleged perpetrator is the 50-year-old estranged husband, also a police officer. Shortly after the crime he was found dead inside his car in a wooded area of Korylovo, having shot himself in the left temple with his service weapon.
The 16-year-old son found his mother covered in blood
The tragic incident was discovered by the couple's minor son, aged 16, who found his mother covered in blood and unconscious in the basement of the house, lying on a bed. Beside her lay the knife. The young man immediately alerted the authorities.
Police officers and an ambulance from EKAB rushed to the scene and transported the injured woman to Drama hospital. Despite doctors' efforts, she died a short time later. The family's two children — aged 16 and 20 — are receiving support from specialist psychologists.
A separation of six months and rejection of divorce
The couple had been separated for at least six months. According to testimony, the 50-year-old was pressuring his wife to reconcile and could not accept her decision to end a marriage of approximately 20 years.
Relatives of the victim report that about two weeks before the murder the 50-year-old allegedly threatened the 45-year-old while she slept, wielding a loaded pistol. Following that incident, the woman temporarily left the house and stayed with her sister, but did not file a complaint with the authorities.
A relative of the victim characterised the crime as a cold-blooded murder: "He was a coward who stabbed her while she slept," the relative stated, also calling on women experiencing abuse to come forward and file complaints.
The police spokesperson and the perpetrator's psychological profile
Police Authority spokeswoman Konstantia Dimoglidu stated that the case is connected to tensions arising from the couple's separation. According to her, the 50-year-old had consulted mental health specialists and his monitoring by a psychologist and possibly a psychiatrist is being investigated.
Sources report that the perpetrator had undergone psychological testing approximately two weeks before the crime and had been deemed suitable for service. There was no recorded history of domestic violence. The authorities are now examining the results of the tests and visits to a private psychologist in order to determine whether there were warning signs that were not adequately assessed.
The victim's post about femicides days before
Particular attention has been drawn to a post made by the 45-year-old a few days before her murder, in which she commented on the way victims are often blamed or perpetrators of domestic violence are justified.
Drama Security continues the preliminary investigation with emphasis on the chronological sequence of events, the perpetrator's psychological state and any possible omissions that may have played a role. The local community remains in shock, with residents reporting that silence has fallen over the neighbourhood.
