The tenant of Stavrula Leventaki has been arrested for cannabis seedlings, whilst being investigated as the prime suspect in her disappearance since 30 May.

The man who rented the house of Stavrula Leventaki, a 45-year-old woman missing since late May in Chania, has been located and arrested in a police operation.
The suspect, who originates from North Macedonia, disappeared from the morning of Thursday, 18 June, apparently realising that the authorities were monitoring him. He had been called to the Chania Police Force for a third time to give a statement regarding the disappearance of the property owner.
The 45-year-old has been missing since 30 May. On that day, she is reported to have had an appointment with the tenant to hand over a sum of money. He claimed that Leventaki visited the house on 29 May, stayed briefly and then left. However, video footage captured the victim heading towards the residence on 30 May, with no recording of her departure.
The suspect's car was found 2-3 kilometres away from the house. Inside it, his mobile telephone was found switched on, which the authorities regard as an attempt to avoid detection.
During his arrest, the man was found to be in possession of cannabis seedlings. At the same time, a forensic investigation unit and the police force conducted a search of the residence where he lived. Samples were taken from the location in order to examine whether there is genetic material that matches the missing woman and provides explanation for her fate.
The report of the disappearance was delayed by approximately one week, as Leventaki's brother was hospitalised. Airports, ports and border stations have been notified.
