The Organised Crime Investigation Unit of Athens dismantled a criminal organisation alleged to have been distributing cocaine in areas of Attica, with estimated profits exceeding €900,000. According to Newsbeast, the operation took place on 10 June and involved searches of residences and storage facilities that police characterised as "kavatzes" — hiding places used by members of the network.
During the operation, nine individuals aged 24, 38, 39, 42, 43 and 49 were arrested. The case file also includes five other persons who have been identified and are being sought by authorities.
The 39-year-old leader and the organisation's structure
The head of the network is alleged to be a 39-year-old, according to information gathered by Greek Police. The organisation operated with a hierarchical structure and distinct roles for each member, and according to police authorities had been active at least since December 2025.
Members of the network took heightened measures to avoid surveillance: they used encrypted communication applications, coded terminology and frequently changed telephone connections.
Findings at the "kavatzes"
During searches of the storage facilities and residences, police identified findings connected to the organisation's activities. The "kavatzes" were a central element of the network's operational infrastructure, according to authorities.
Charges
The arrested individuals face charges including, as applicable, establishment of a criminal organisation, violations of weapons and narcotic substances legislation, money laundering from criminal activities, violations of foreign nationals legislation and falsification of certificates.
