Arrest of 24-year-old for arson with supporter motive – drugs and motorcycle found
A 24-year-old man was arrested by authorities as the second participant in two arsons committed approximately twelve months ago in areas of Attica. The attacks are believed to have been carried out with a motive related to supporter rivalries. In February of the previous year, a 20-year-old was already arrested who is accused of igniting the incendiary device.
As reported by ertnews.gr, the two perpetrators arrived on a motorcycle outside an apartment building in Agios Dimitrios where a supporter of a rival team lived. Both wore protective helmets. The passenger got off carrying a bag, entered the building's entrance and left there a makeshift device that caused flames within minutes. The driver remained on the street waiting for his accomplice and together they disappeared.
Following the arrest of the first youth, officers from the Organised Athletic Violence Prevention Unit used information from telephone communications and managed to locate the 24-year-old driver. During a search of his residence in Nea Smyrni, officials found approximately 35 grammes of cocaine in 40 packages, precision scales, two vials of flammable liquid, a knife, a bullet, 700 euros, gloves, a helmet and mobile phones. Stickers with supporter-related content were also seized.
The motorcycle used in the attacks was also seized. The first arson had occurred in Daphni, a few minutes before the second one, at the residence of another supporter.
