Migrant smuggler arrested in Ioannina – Nine foreign nationals in lorry
Police have arrested a Greek lorry driver on the Ioannina–Arta national highway for the illegal transportation of nine foreign nationals. Three of the occupants are minors, and an outstanding arrest warrant for drug offences was pending against one adult.

A Greek lorry driver has been arrested by officers from the Ioannina Rapid Response Unit, accused of illegally transporting nine foreign nationals by lorry. The incident occurred during a checkpoint on the national highway between Ioannina and Arta, at a point near the Egnatia junction.
Officers stopped the vehicle and upon searching its interior found nine foreign nationals who did not have the required documents for legal residence in Greece.
Security personnel established that three of the individuals in the lorry are minors. The children were placed in protective custody. Additionally, one of the adult passengers had an outstanding arrest warrant from the Court of Appeal of Thessaloniki relating to violations of drug laws.
The lorry was seized by the authorities. The driver and the occupants were taken to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Ioannina for further proceedings.
