In the Meneméni area, police from the Thessaloniki Immediate Action Directorate located a 36-year-old foreign national yesterday morning, who is accused of illegal migrant transportation.

The man was driving a private vehicle and ignored the acoustic and light signals from police officers. Instead, he accelerated and attempted to escape, performing dangerous manoeuvres on the road. The vehicle was eventually immobilised in the Kalokhório area.

During his arrest, the 36-year-old resisted strongly. Inside the vehicle, two foreign nationals were found who did not possess documents for lawful residence in the country.

The Mydonia Migration Management Department opened a case file against him for illegal transportation and facilitation of migrants within Greece, criminal organisation, violent behaviour towards employees, non-compliance, dangerous interference with road traffic, and driving without a valid licence.

The arrested individual will be brought before the competent prosecutor. A mobile phone and the vehicle he was using were also seized.
