Arrest for violence against police officers in Cassino
According to questure.poliziadistato.it, this morning at approximately 11:00 the State Police arrested a young man resident in the Cassino area for violence, resistance and aggravated injury to a public official, as well as for aggravated damage to property.
The incident occurred at the edge of a student demonstration near Piazza A. De Gasperi. The young man, already burdened by previous convictions for robbery and unlawful possession of weapons, approached officers on duty without apparent reason and adopted an openly hostile attitude, challenging the officers and shouting insulting remarks. Some of the same students present attempted to intervene to calm him down and move him away, in order to isolate the aggressor and maintain the peaceful nature of their initiative.
Undeterred, the young man threw a plastic bottle full of water at one of the officers, who managed to dodge the object. When the officers asked him to produce his documents, the subject categorically refused to provide his particulars, maintaining a highly aggressive posture.
The situation escalated when the officers attempted to escort him to the patrol car. To evade the search, the young man violently attacked an officer, striking him with a kick and causing him to fall to the ground. During the escort into the patrol car, the subject offered strong physical resistance, striking a blow that dented the bodywork of the left rear door.
After the necessary formalities, the young man was arrested and placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority under house arrest. The Anti-Crime Division of the Police Headquarters has begun procedures for the application of a personal prevention measure. The suspect remains, for the time being, under suspicion of an offence; his position will be reviewed by the courts in accordance with the constitutional principle of the presumption of innocence.
