Drug arrest on Verona motorway
According to questure.poliziadistato.it, the State Police in Verona arrested a 51-year-old Tunisian citizen, resident in the Bergamo area, for possession of a controlled substance with intent to supply. During a check on the A4 near Colognola ai Colli, officers from the Verona South Motorway Police sub-section inspected a vehicle heading towards Vicenza.
The driver, upon seeing the officers, showed signs of nervousness and provided contradictory explanations for his presence on the motorway, without luggage with him. The officers conducted further investigations by inspecting the vehicle. Inside the passenger compartment, in the pocket of a jacket on the rear seats, two cellophane packages were found containing a white substance, which tested positive for cocaine in a narcotest, for a total weight exceeding 300 grammes.
At the same time as the drug seizure, the officers seized a mobile telephone and €1,600 in cash, considered proceeds of drug trafficking activity. The man was arrested and taken into custody at the disposal of the Judicial Authority. The judge validated the arrest and ordered custody awaiting trial in prison. By the principle of presumption of innocence, the criminal responsibility of the arrested person remains established only following the outcome of trial with an irrevocable criminal sentence.
