Drug raid in San Basilio, six arrests and major seizure
A coordinated operation by the Fourth District San Basilio has led to 6 arrests for possession with intent to deal in narcotic substances, one report for resisting a public official and the seizure of over 700 grammes of drugs and approximately 18,600 euros in cash. The action involved, in synergy, agents of the State Police, military personnel from the Carabinieri and the Financial Police, together with operators of the Municipal Police in the north-eastern sector of the Capital. During the checks, 90 people were identified and 16 vehicles inspected, with five penalties issued under the Road Code.
According to questure.poliziadistato.it, the decisive element in a house search was the sense of smell of Faro, a drug-detection dog of the State Police. The animal identified hiding places in the home of a sixty-year-old Roman man, where officers found a total of 265 grammes of hashish divided into marked blocks and packets inside a jar. A compartment built into the furnishings served as a safe for part of the 18,250 euros found, distributed among hiding places in the master bedroom. A vacuum-packing machine and material deemed functional to the preparation of the narcotic were also seized. The man was arrested.
On via Gaspare Gozzi, investigators monitored the movements of a rental vehicle already flagged for suspected sales in various neighbourhoods. Officers documented a meeting between the driver and a man who allegedly received a bag containing over 160 grammes of cocaine from the passenger side. The immediate intervention made it possible to recover approximately 180 grammes of the same substance, a precision scale, 310 euros and an address book with nicknames and figures relating to the accounting of the activity. Two men, Romans aged forty-seven and sixty-eight years, were arrested in concert and subjected to house arrest measures.
Three further arrests were made by Carabinieri of the San Basilio Station of Rome as part of the same operation. The military personnel intercepted three people believed to be involved in drug-dealing activity in concert, seizing 221 grammes of cocaine and 51 grammes of hashish. Separately, agents of the Fourth District reported a man found in possession of a box cutter who opposed the checks; he must answer for resisting a public official and unjustified carrying of objects capable of causing injury.
All arrests were validated by the Judicial Authority. For the persons under investigation, the principle of presumption of innocence applies until a possible definitive determination by an irrevocable sentence of conviction.
