Tangier Med: seizure of 971 kg of cocaine during joint customs inspection
Officers from the National Security and Customs authorities intercepted nearly one tonne of cocaine concealed inside a refrigerated container at Tangier Med Port on Tuesday afternoon, according to fnh.ma. The drug, totalling 971 kilograms, was aboard a vessel flying the flag of a Latin American state.
Preliminary investigations made it possible to trace the container's route: departing from a Brazilian port, it was destined for a port in West Africa, a security source cited by fnh.ma confirmed. The cocaine blocks were discovered during border control operations conducted jointly by the two services.
The Tangier Prefectural Service of the Judicial Police has opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor's office, in order to clarify all circumstances surrounding this criminal operation. Furthermore, the National Central Bureau (Interpol office Rabat), under the authority of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), has been tasked with coordinating international cooperation with a view to identifying the criminal network involved.
