Record cocaine seizure at Tanger Med: international investigation opened under Interpol supervision

According to h24info.ma, a joint security operation conducted on Tuesday afternoon at the Tanger Med port complex resulted in the interception of 971 kilogrammes of cocaine, in what constitutes one of the largest seizures ever made at this port.

Agents from the National Security Force and Customs services discovered the drugs during routine border control procedures. The cocaine tablets were hidden inside a refrigerated container transported aboard a vessel flying the flag of a Latin American state, according to a security source.

Initial elements of the investigation indicate that the container's route linked directly a Brazilian port to a final destination in West Africa.

Given the scale of the seizure, the Prefectural Service of the Judicial Police in Tanger opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor's office, with the aim of identifying all ramifications of the criminal network involved.

In parallel, the National Central Bureau Interpol Rabat, attached to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), activated international security cooperation mechanisms in order to collaborate with foreign partners and trace the logistical supply chain of this trafficking operation.

The DGSN confirmed the operation via its official account on the social network X, referring to a blow struck against international drug and psychotropic substance trafficking.
