Sabine Béraud sentenced to 15 years for attempted murder of her children and neighbours
The Martinique court of assizes has sentenced Sabine Béraud to 15 years imprisonment for five attempted murders. The prosecution had sought 24 years.

The court of assizes of Martinique handed down, on Thursday 4 June 2026, a sentence of 15 years imprisonment against Sabine Béraud. According to rci.fm, this mother was found guilty of attempted murder of her three children as well as two of her neighbours in Cité Dillon, offences committed on 29 November 2022.
The jury also found against her intentional violence with a weapon without temporary work incapacity, in connection with blows inflicted on a sixth victim, another neighbour.
Sentence accompanied by several supplementary measures
The conviction is accompanied by a safety period of seven years, socio-judicial monitoring for five years as well as a requirement for treatment. Should Sabine Béraud fail to comply with this requirement, she faces three additional years of imprisonment.
The court also imposed a prohibition on carrying weapons for five years and deprivation of the right to stand for office for ten years. She is now registered on the automated national judicial database of perpetrators of sexual or violent offences (FIJAISV).
A notable gap with the prosecution's submissions
The solicitor general had sought a considerably more severe sentence: 24 years imprisonment, accompanied by a safety period of 12 years. The jury's verdict therefore fell well short of this request.
The defence, provided by Maître Max Bellemare, had pleaded for clemency by invoking his client's difficult past. "Everything we suffered in childhood remains — it fades with love, but it persists," he declared before the court. "If we understand how she built herself, we will understand why that day she lost her footing," he also argued.
