The man took on the role of so-called "collector" in a fraud targeting an 89-year-old resident of Biała Rawska municipality. Officers detained him on the same day the crime was committed.

An 89-year-old resident of Biała Rawska municipality received a call from an unknown woman on 3 June after 5 p.m. The fraudster convinced the elderly woman that her daughter had caused a road accident and a bail of 180,000 złoty was needed. The money was to be collected by an alleged prosecutor.
Shortly afterwards, a 31-year-old man appeared at the elderly woman's door. He impersonated a prosecutor's office official and took 1,000 złoty from her, explaining that it was reimbursement for his travel.
The woman realised she had become a victim of fraud and notified Rawal police. They quickly launched a pursuit. That same evening, they located the suspect in eastern Łódź county and detained him at his home.
The man was taken to the police station, where he was charged with fraud. The prosecutor requested his arrest, and the court approved the motion. The 31-year-old will spend the next three months in custody. He faces up to eight years in prison.
Investigators do not rule out further developments in this case.
Officers remind the public: no police officer or prosecutor demands cash transfers. It is also impossible to "buy" someone out of custody. If someone demands money under such circumstances, they are a thief.
