Police are conducting a multi-year investigation into a criminal scheme involving the extortion of money using the "legend" method. The apprehended men are the latest individuals to be brought into proceedings in this case.
The "grandchild" or "police officer" method involves contacting elderly people under false pretences — typically as a family member in need or a police officer. The perpetrators convince victims to hand over cash under various guises, such as medical treatment, bail, or to cover the costs of an alleged police intervention.
Investigators are establishing the scale of the group's operations and any potential links to other similar structures operating across the country. Previous findings suggest that members of this network may have defrauded a total of millions of zlotys from elderly people across Poland.
