The National Anti-Corruption Directorate is conducting 96 searches on Monday across six counties in a bribery case involving border police and customs officers from Halmeu Border Crossing Point.

Cotidianul.ro reports that prosecutors from the National Anti-Corruption Directorate are carrying out 96 simultaneous searches on Monday, 5 October, in the counties of Satu Mare, Bihor, Sălaj, Maramureș, Cluj and Mureș, in a corruption case targeting border police officers and customs workers at Halmeu Border Crossing Point.

The investigation is being conducted by DNA prosecutors from the Territorial Service Oradea and concerns alleged offences committed during the period 2025–2026. The individuals targeted are suspected of having received sums of money in connection with the performance of their service duties within border structures in Satu Mare County.

The searches cover both the homes of private individuals and the headquarters of two public institutions. The investigators are looking for documents and other evidence to help establish the facts of the case and the responsibilities of those involved.

The operation involves officers from the General Anti-Corruption Directorate, gendarmes and police officers from the Bihor and Cluj county inspectorates. The DNA has not announced the identity of the targeted individuals or the exact number of those under investigation so far.

The prosecutors are seeking to determine whether the money was received in direct connection with the exercise of service duties and which individuals may have taken part in the alleged criminal activity. Information regarding any questioning, detention or other preventive measures has not been communicated. The DNA clarified that it will provide further details when the stage of the investigation allows for this.
