Law lecturer arrested following student complaints about sexual favours at examinations

Alexandru Toader, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University in Iași, has been remanded in custody for 30 days after prosecutors detained him on 23 October. The case concerns multiple offences of rape and sexual assault committed against students, radioiasi.ro reports.

The investigation began after two students complained that Toader had demanded sexual favours in exchange for passing a course in which they risked failing. According to judicial sources cited by radioiasi.ro, additional complaints have since emerged, beyond those from the two initial young women.

Alexandru Toader is the son of the former rector of the same university, Tudorel Toader. Before the arrest decision was announced, Tudorel Toader stated that the entire case represented an attack on his person and that his son was being used for this purpose.

The case came to light through an investigation carried out by journalists from the publication Reporter de Iași.
