Man from Záhorie loses 60,000 euros: police investigate investment fraud in Malacky

False investment offer cost man from Záhorie nearly 60,000 euros

A man from Záhorie lost nearly 60,000 euros after responding to an internet offer of apparently favourable money investment. The case is being handled by the District Directorate of the Police Force in Malacky, reported nazahori.sk.

It started with a 250-euro deposit

The victim himself found contact details for a company offering attractive investment on the internet and contacted it by telephone. After an initial conversation, he was instructed to send an initial deposit to a specified bank account.

The first deposit amounted to 250 euros. The fraudsters then claimed he had earned 14 euros and, under the promise of even higher returns, persuaded him to continue. The man subsequently made further bank transfers totalling 22,350 euros.

Cash collected by anonymous courier

When the bank transfers were exhausted, the fraudsters began demanding cash. First, the man was informed that in order to obtain a temporary investment licence he had to pay 16,000 euros — he personally handed over this money to an unknown courier.

The manipulation did not end there. The fraudsters subsequently told him that the company had inadvertently lost the money, but that he could recover it on the basis of an insurance policy. The condition was the handover of a further 21,500 euros in cash, again to an anonymous courier. The promised immediate payment of all returns never took place.

Police appeal to public

The police force is once again urging residents of the region not to fall for the illusion of easy profit. No serious financial institution sends anonymous couriers to collect cash or requests additional payments for the payment of profits.

Citizens are advised to thoroughly verify each investment offer, consult with relatives or experts and, in case of doubt, contact the police on the free number 158.

The information was provided by the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Bratislava.
