GPF launches investigation into rape allegations against SOCU deputy commissioner
The Guyana Police Force is investigating allegations of rape and threatening behaviour against one of its senior officers, newsroom.gy reports. The individual was not named in the official police release, but Home Affairs Minister Oneidge Walrond confirmed earlier on Friday that the allegations are directed at Deputy Commissioner Fazil Karimbaksh, Head of the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU).
Commissioner of Police Dr. Clifton Hicken has established a dedicated team to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, according to a GPF statement issued Friday.
"The allegations are being treated with the seriousness they warrant and the investigation will be conducted professionally, impartially and in accordance with established procedures," the Force stated.
The GPF added that it remains committed to ensuring due process is afforded to all parties involved and that the investigative process proceeds fairly.
Further information will be released as the investigation develops, the Force said.
