An off-duty officer detained an individual who was beating and insulting a woman in a public street in the Málaga capital.

On 4 June, at approximately half past five in the afternoon, a Local Police officer in Málaga who was not on duty at the time witnessed a serious disturbance on Calle Eduardo Marquina. On approaching, he found that a man was restraining a woman by the arms whilst berating her with insulting remarks.
The uniformed officer contacted the operations centre to request support. Before the backup unit arrived, the assailant delivered a forceful punch to the victim's head. The officer acted immediately, positioning himself between them to neutralise the attacker and stop the beating.
Minutes later a police unit arrived and formalised the arrest. The assaulted woman was taken to hospital, although the medical diagnosis was not disclosed. The alleged abuser was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities, charged with a crime of gender-based violence.
