A 65-year-old man, an Italian national, was arrested in Aigion on suspicion of murdering two people in Longos, Aigialeia. The victims were his 54-year-old partner and her 26-year-old son, who were found dead in their home on 9 June.
The couple had been living together for several years. About two to three months before the incident, the woman had sold a property and sent the proceeds to her son in Germany, where he was studying. The Italian is alleged to have invested money in their shared residence and believed he should have a say in financial decisions.
The mother of the young man, speaking to a television station, said her grandson had not intended to return to the country before summer. His arrival was brought forward following a telephone call from his mother, who was experiencing problems with the Italian.
The forensic examination revealed that the 26-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the head from a hunting rifle, possibly while he was asleep, and subsequently sustained six stab wounds. The 54-year-old had more than twenty knife wounds. Neither of the victims showed signs of defence.
Authorities are also investigating the possibility that the son had come to transfer his mother to Germany due to health problems she was experiencing. The young man had arrived earlier than expected.
During a search of the house, a large kitchen knife with a 20 cm blade and a hunting rifle of flóbert type with one cartridge in the chamber were found. The suspect was taken to the prosecutor.
