The judicial investigation into the brutal murder of a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son in Aigio continues with contested laboratory results that are hampering the case against the detained Italian.
According to a report by in.gr, examination of biological material from the General Chemical State Laboratory yielded negative results for the suspect. Specifically, no genetic material from the detainee was found under the fingernails of either victim, despite authorities having identified signs of a struggle at the scene. Furthermore, chemical analyses on the foreigner's hands showed no traces of explosive material, whilst the victims sustained gunshot wounds in addition to stab wounds.
Clean were also found the suspect's clothes, as well as a towel that had been discovered in the rear garden of the residence. These particular findings are being used by the Italian's legal advisers as an argument in favour of his innocence.
Meanwhile, police are examining visual material from a camera in a nearby building, recording every possible movement around the crime scene on the night of the deaths.
A recent discovery adds complexity to the case: a wire mesh construction that serves as a passage between the victims' house and a neighbouring bakery, owned by the unfortunate woman's uncle. Investigators are seriously examining the scenario that the real perpetrator escaped via this route or concealed objects there.
The residence has been sealed by court order, whilst the prosecuting authorities are working to fill the gaps in what remains an unresolved case.
